Book Review

The Kite Runner is a original written by Khaled Hosseini. It was Hosseinis first novel, published in 2003 by Riverhead Books. The novel was adapted into a film of the same name in 2007, and was met with criticism for some of its controversial elements. The story chronicles the chaotic vivification of the narrator, an affluent Pashtun boy from Kabul, Afghanistan, and those closest to him. Pashtun refers to a particular heathenish group within Afghanistan, and is an important subject in the novel, as it implies a degree of superiority over some of the otherwise main characters. This moving story is set to the backdrop of noteworthy historical events in which Afghanistan changed forever. There argon many themes in this story including love, hate, shame, and redemption. While the story delves into some uncomfortable issues, it is a necessary inclusion that allows the reader to understand some of the gloomy elements of the Afghanistan culture, in particular, the Taliban.
