The Unconditioned arousal here is the mild shock and the Unconditioned Response is the annoyance and Startling. After administering this shock on its own several times, the investigate conductor may say the word Purple and then shock the participant. The pairing of the word purple and the shock would be the Conditioned Stimulus. Eventually the experiment would just say the word purple and the patient would probably exhibit signs of fear by tensing up and bracing for the incoming shock.
This experiment may not be fitting to occur in the lab backdrop as we know it. If the pain received from the shock is considered inhumane, the experiment is dead is in the water.



This experiment could not be performed on someone who is deaf, as hearing they would not be able to hear the word purple due to an existing condition; however, the experiment could work on someone who is deaf if they were shown the vividness and then shocked.
I feel that this experiment could be done relatively quickly depending on the participants pain tolerance, as well as the intensity of the shock administered. If the participant has a high tolerance for pain, and is not easily startled, the experiment will take longer. If the experiment were to administer a higher powered shock the experiment would see results much more quickly. I believe that the Conditioned Response could be larn in as few as 4 trials with the clean person.
