My Personal Interpretation of Maya Angelous Still I bestride
In Still I Rise by Maya Angelou, the speaker exerts words that connote a sense of mensurate, both priceless (oil, diamonds, oceans; things in nature) and materialistic (things in nature that are charge coin), in order to proclaim her strength and self-reliance to feed forward and above the detrimental thoughts of race who she is perceiving as beingness envious of her. She is comparing her own self-identity and appraisal to the riches and value of the Earth.
In the beginning of the poem, Angelou is saying one can bypass rumors and gossip about her, plainly she will continue to be above the bitter, twisted lies. She will continue to stand tall. The t sounds used in this stanza hit hard, and shows empowerment. She then says one could attractive much walk over her, drive her into the dirt with their ostracise words, but wish dust she will rise. When Angelou give tongue to You may trod me in the very dirt but still, kindred dust, Ill rise, she used the word dirt in circumstance of something permanent. Dirt is permanent, and is something that has always been on Earth and these negative thoughts people talk of her can never be undone.
Though she remains strong and has the will power to move forward, these people need committed some kind of permanent damage, not to her, but to her reputation. This part of the poem is very motivational.
Angelou continues with confidence, and somewhat sarcasm by asking her reader a question, Does my sassiness upset you? Why are you beset with gloom? Angelou is asking her reader why does my confidence incommode you so much? Why does my strength bother you? Why are you surrounded with so many negative thoughts? She then continues by stating Cause I walk like I got oil wells pumping in my living mode. Angelou is expressing that she must be upsetting the reader; the reader must be upset because she walks with her head high, as if she has all the money in the world.
